The Importance of Partnerships

Partnerships with Home Works for the home repair program exist on different levels with:
        * in-kind,
        * cash,
        * and labor.

Home Works prides itself in spending its received income directly on the program. In 2004, Home Works received the South Carolina Secretary of State's Angel's Award for spending nearly 98 cents of every dollar on its program! This award can only be received once however we still maintain responsible spending of the public's money and trust. The 2007 Budget reflects 97% of all funding is spent directly on the program!

The average cost of building materials that needs to be purchased, to make repairs and modifications, ensuring safety for the homeowner, is approximately $900 per home. Cash donations are needed to purchase materials that are not donated and to pay for third-party labor that we cannot acquire through volunteers.

Donated labor is needed for: electrical, plumbing, roofing, flooring, carpentry, masonry, chimney, hvac, etc. However, the greatest need is for tasks that can only be performed by trained, licensed workers such as repairs dealing with air conditioning units, heaters, plumbing and electricity.

Repairing a home costs less than building a new home so funds received are stretched further with Home Works' program. In-kind donations of new or gently used building materials from local businesses are needed to keep the cash amount needed for each home low. Examples include:
