HOME WORKS - A BLESSING FOR OUR PARISH

Es una bonita experiencia recibir cada año a nuestros hermanos de Home Works. Son una grata visita porque vienen cada año a dar razones de esperanza y alegría a las familias más pobres de la Parroquia. Son una bendición para nuestros pueblos.

 

It is a beautiful experience, each year, to receive our brothers of Home Works.  It is a welcome visit.  You come each year to give meaning to the word HOPE and spread much joy and happiness to the poorest families of our Parish.  You are a blessing to our community.

Esta obra se inicia en la parroquia en la reunión del Consejo Parroquial del mes de junio. Los Comités Pro-templo (grupos organizados por la parroquia en cada pueblo) Éstos con un mes de anticipación inician la evaluación de las familias más pobres que necesitan reparación o construcción de una casa. Los Comités elevan las propuestas de sus respectivos pueblos: La Cruz puede elevar 4 propuestas (por ser el pueblo más grande en habitantes de la parroquia), Grau 2, Villar 3, Los Pinos 2, Bocapán 2, Acapulco 2, Punta Mero 1. Es un trabajo muy serio y muy complicado, porque se tiene que elegir en pueblos muy pobres donde la mayoría tienen necesidad de algo, a los más pobres.

 

The Summer Session for us begins in June with a meeting of the Parish Counsel and "Los Comités Pro-templo" (groups organized by the parish in each town). With a month of anticipation the evaluation of the poorest families in need of repair or construction of a home is initiated.  The Committees evaluate the nominees of their respective areas:  La Cruz can nominate 4 families (by virtue of being the most heavily populated town in the Parish), Villar - 3, Grau - 2, Los Pinos - 2, Bocapán - 2, Acapulco - 2 and lastly  Punta Mero - 1.  It is a complicated task and taken very seriously.  Selection is made of the poorest families, in very poor towns where the majority are in need of some form of assistance. 

Una vez hecha la selección, esperamos la venida de los hermanos de Estados Unidos. Al día siguiente de su llegada inicia el trabajo. Tenemos que visitar con ellos cada una de las familias propuestas y nos enfrentamos con un gran problema: tenemos que elegir a las familias más necesitadas de entre todas las necesitadas. Es un tiempo en que se necesita mucha oración porque yo me pregunto: ¿Cuál será la voluntad de Dios? ¿A quién querrá Dios que le hagamos una casa?. Es una gran responsabilidad.

 

Once the nominated families are identified, we await the arrival of our Brothers from the United States.  Works begins on the day they arrive.  We visit with each of the families and are confronted with a great dilemma: we have to choose the neediest families from among all in dire need.  It is a time which calls for much prayer and I must ask myself:  What is God's will?  To whom will God want; that we do them a home?  It is heavy burden to bear. 

Luego, sin que las familias sepan, al terminar una casa, visitamos de sorpresa a la siguiente familia que Dios ha elegido para que le hagamos su casa. Para ellos, es una gran alegría cuando les comunicamos que vamos a hacer o reparar su casa, en sus rostros se dibuja una sorpresa, es un regalo, algo que no pueden creer, algo que no esperaban porque consideraban que siempre iban a vivir en situación precaria y que Dios nunca se acordaría de ellos. Es una escena que a mí me provoca llorar al ver que una persona vuelve a tener esperanza de una vida más digna con la ayuda de Dios.

 

Meanwhile, without the families' knowledge, once we have completed one house, we make a surprise visit to the next family, that God has selected for us, to construct for them a new home.  For them, it is a great joy when we explain that we are going to construct or repair their home.  Their face portrays utter amazement and surprise, a gift, something that cannot be believed, something they did not expect, because they considered that life for them would always be a precarious living situation, that God would never remember them.  It is a scene that causes me to cry upon seeing that a person has restored hope of a more dignified life with the help of God.

El trabajo es muy fuerte y los voluntarios de Home Works y los voluntarios de la parroquia, que nos identificamos con la misión de Home Works,  trabajamos con mucha alegría. En este año Enrique, Tito, Cliff, Michael, Pancho, Luis, Edgar, Mario, Juan Carlos, Ronald, etc. Trabajamos de 8 de la mañana a las 7 de la noche y al día siguiente los mismo, hasta nosotros mismos nos sorprendemos del avance: una casa por día. Somos muy felices haciendo el bien y dando esperanza a la gente más pobre.

 

The work is very hard and the volunteers of Home Works and those of the parish, that identify with the mission of Home Works, we work and laugh together.  This year, Enrique (Hank), Tito, Cliff, Michael, Pancho, Luis, Edgar, Mario, Juan Carlos, Ronald, etc., we worked from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm, day in and day out.  We even surprised ourselves at being able to maintain a pace of building one house per day.  We are very happy with the good we are doing and giving hope to the poorest people. 

Gracias hermanos por ayudar a los pobres de nuestra parroquia y gracias porque  colaboran con los fondos para construir una casa cada tres meses. Ya hicimos la primera este martes 11 de Noviembre y hemos marcado un hito: la primera casa construida con la ayuda económica de ustedes y el fuerte trabajo voluntario de los Home Works peruanos. En la organización del trabajo, en la ejecución del trabajo y después del trabajo he observado una identificación con la misión y mucha alegría. Gracias por permitirnos servir de esa manera.

 

Thank you my Brothers for helping the poor of our parish and thank you for your continued contribution and willingness to fund a Peruvian one new home Blitz every three months.  The first one was completed Tuesday, the 11th of November 2008, and we have marked a milestone: the first Peruvian Blitz house built with the economic aid of Home Works of America, Inc., and the Volunteer labor force of the Home Works Peruvian Chapter.  In the planning of the Blitz, the execution of the Blitz and after the Blitz, I have observed in myself, an identification with the mission of Home Works and a real sense of happiness.  Thank you for allowing us to serve in this manner.
